2021.10.24 13:15 SignificantSolid1982 prediction of who will win this season

So, I would love to know who you guys think will win it all! Here are the contenders I see in each team:
Kelly: Girl Named Tom & Gymani John: Samuel Harness & BrittanyBree (apparently they are up against each other in the knock-outs.. I seriously do not understand why John is doing this) Ari: Ryleigh & Bella (maybe Katie Rae? but for some reason I don't see her winning) Blake: Carson (you know.. he sings country or whatever) & Wendy, like ... she is vocally amazing. I guess her winning would spark some controversy because she's already "famous". To me, it's unclear if the show's producers would even want her to win?
overall I think one of these will win: Girl Named Tom, Gymani, Ryleigh, Wendy
WHO DID I FORGET IN YOUR OPINION?

P.S. Sorry for my English, it's not my first language

I was trained on up front forever ago and since then I’ve been up there everyday and I’m tired of it. I want to be back on grill, not on window or headset dealing with customers who have an attitude. I’ve mentioned I’m tired of window but I always get stuck up front.

2021.10.24 13:15 seeayefelts IAMA former atheist turned student of theology turned religious person. Ask me about how somebody ends up getting MORE irrational instead of the other way around.

Hi everyone -
I am not sure of the value of a post like this, but I am always a fan of conversation between differing views and of talking about weird ideas.
As the title suggests, through my adolescence and young adulthood, I was a very straightforward and self-assured atheist. In college I became interested in religious writers such as Soren Kierkegaard. In my late twenties I received a Master's of Theological Studies from Boston University - I took courses in philosophy as well as on the history and theology of Christianity. All that has led me toward believing in God - or perhaps a budding belief in God was what led me toward such a path to begin with.
I would be happy to talk about that journey, to present some of my knowledge from my dubious education, and to perform some religious apologetics, where requested. I would not call myself a Christian, although I do attend a Christian church, but Christianity is the religious tradition about which I am most knowledgeable.
To be clear, I do not intend to convince anyone here that God or other divinities exist, only to spark some curiosity, and perhaps even clear up some confusion, about the many varieties of religious belief. I am happy to defend my own views as well as expound upon them, although there are limits to my ability to defend beliefs that I do not happen to share.
Here are some preview questions:

  1. How can a 'smart person' believe in God?
It is true that many uncritical and dogmatically-minded people are religious. But not all religious people are uncritical and dogmatic. And many of us who are religious are highly attuned to the sorts of critiques of religion that appear in a forum such as this one, such as the problem of evil in a God-governed world or how to address the contradictions and absurdities and incorrect assertions of a religious text such as the Bible. I would be happy to provide answers to those sorts of critiques from the framework of my own understanding, as well as from my encounters with religious people who are way, way smarter than I am.
  1. How can a person be religious but also believe in science? Are religion and science really compatible?
It depends on the sort of religion you are talking about, of course, but yes, they can be! But further than that, still, here's where I get to be audacious: the history of early science intersects a lot more than some people may know with religious frameworks of thought that provide the notion that of an orderly, knowable, God-created world. There are aspects of secular (post)modernity, indeed, that may well be less compatible with science than with certain religious worldviews. I am happy to talk about this more in response to questions pertaining to it.
  1. What sorts of religious belief are out there? Is/was 'x' smart person (Einstein, Jefferson, Obama...) really religious or is/was he just afraid of claiming to be an atheist?
This subreddit seems to spend a lot of time being frustrated about religious dogmatists and fundamentalists. I can understand that - the beliefs and practices that arise from these groups can be very harmful and destructive, and many people have been hurt by them. I garner that folks understand that not all religious people are like this. But I would like to suggest further that religious belief can be not only morally respectable but intellectually respectable - and intellectually very fascinating and very wild.
I would love to be able highlight to folks that there are all sorts of weird and wonderful and individualistic ways that a person can be religious. A person can be religious like Spinoza or like Emerson or like Whitman, where the concept of God takes on a character that may be very unfamiliar to most people. I could begin to do this by describing aspects of my own beliefs and journey toward becoming a believer, as well as describing some of the surprising theologies that are out there in the big wide world.
  1. Why would you go from a perfectly rational perspective to a clearly irrational one?
I have recently become acquainted with Russell's Teapot. It is an interesting idea that has some merit in thinking about how we adjudicate what counts as a justified belief within a community, but I think it is not quite analogous with the religious person's experience and reasons for belief - for a religious person may well have a positive account - if not an account that passes scientific muster - for why they believe what they do. They have not seen God with their eyes or smelled him with their noses, of course, but they nonetheless may have a powerful sense of his existence that passes for reasonable grounds for belief. It is almost comparable to one's friend the astronomer saying, "I believe there's a giant tea kettle orbiting the moon because I saw it through the observatory telescope late one evening." One might say that the astronomer is being reasonable in this belief to the extent that he has some sensory input that informs the belief that he has. We might be skeptical and suggest that he needs to check his telescope, or perhaps his sanity, but his belief is not the same as merely positing that a giant teapot is floating around in space for no reason whatsoever. The astronomer would be wise, of course, not to attempt to submit his theory of the giant space tea kettle to the journals of his discipline, unless he can claim further evidence that such a thing exists or gets a colleague to confirm that he or she observes the same thing, or else he will surely risk looking very, very embarrassed.
For a person who believes in God, I think, the reason for which she must ultimately take recourse for her remarkable belief is that she senses in some fashion (the nature of this sense may not be easy to describe) that there is the presence of such an entity that is suitable of being called God. Maybe her sense in this case is wrong, and she is confused, but all she knows is that she senses the presence of this entity, and she trusts and believes that sense. That is as rational, I think, as a person can be on such a question as this, for better or for worse. It may not be sufficient to an inquirer who may doubt this person's senses, but what I would like to suggest is that it is only as insane as seeing something utterly remarkable with one's eyes and choosing to believe it.
I would agree with Russell, though, that the person who senses this thing cannot go about telling everyone else that they ought to believe what she believes when they do not have the same sense of it that she does. All she can do is find a community of those who have experienced what she has.
All right. I hope that is sufficient toward sparking a discussion or some questions. I will come back later to see what I find in my inbox! Thanks, everyone, and take care.

2021.10.24 13:15 Loose_Pudding1066 Lack of tire choice shots in WC/Superprestige cyclocross coverage?

I’ve noticed over the last few years that the camera rarely pans down and show the riders tire choice…. Just a little aspect of cyclocross coverage that I always loved and found super interesting but doesn’t seem to be standard practice any longer. Has anyone else noticed this? I find myself trying to talk to the cameraman…
